Description
Located on the Kakum – Kabrai route, the Kakun Mahaveer Temple stands as a remarkable blend of faith, folklore, and regional history. Perched on a hilltop, this sacred site traces its roots to Chandela-era heritage, supported by inscriptional references and the remains of ancient temples scattered around the hill. The centerpiece of the site is a rare six-foot rock carving of Hanuman in the form where he subdues Ahiravan, with Lord Ram and Lakshman depicted beside him, a powerful iconography seldom seen in traditional temple art. Even today, the temple remains an active pilgrimage destination, drawing large crowds weekly and thousands during the grand celebration on Jyeshtha Purnima. With centuries-old traditions still alive, Kakun Mahaveer continues to symbolize devotion, strength, and the living spiritual identity of Bundelkhand.
