Description
Located in the heart of Bundelkhand, carries centuries of history shaped by devotion and valor. Built in 1130 CE by Bail Brahma under Chandela rule, the lake is tied to the legend of a Nishad couple whose sacrifice brought rain and completion to the reservoir. The region later flourished under Maharaja Chhatrasal and became the historic meeting ground of Chhatrasal and Peshwa Bajirao, giving rise to the story of Mastani. During British rule, Belatal stood witness to rebellion led by Raja Parikshit and his queen during the 1857 uprising. Today, Belatal remains a symbol of Bundelkhand’s heritage, pride, and living cultural memory.
